iOS 8 features

With iOS 7.1 released this week, the Apple developers can now focus on iOS 8, which will be presented at WWDC 2014 in june. The features we are expecting to see are speed improvements (more than what iOS 7.1 brought), a new app focused on health called “Healthbook”, new stock apps like “Preview” and “TextEdit”, a dedicated app for iTunes Radio and Siri and maps improvements.

Healthbook would be a completely new app with a similar interface to the Passbook app. This app would include several sections that offer information on Fitness, Diet, and Medications. It would also feature a Notes section, a Health Status section (this section would list blood pressure, hydration level and heart rate) and finally a Sleep tracking feature.

OS X includes TextEdit and Preview for a long time, and they gained iCloud features in OS X 10.8, two years ago. Some pictures on Weibo showed the icons of these apps on iOS. That would be a cool feature to have, although we already have a Notes app on iOS and iBooks to read pdf. If TextEdit and Preview are brought to iOS with iOS 8, maybe iBooks would no more support pdf files.

Yes, the icons for Preview and TextEdit are ugly and they don’t match iOS 7’s style, that why I think that these icons are temporary.

For the maps app, it would include public transit directions, allowing iOS users to get directions for trains, subways and busses. The feature would work in San Francisco, Los Angeles and New York initially and eventually expand to other big cities in the world.

iOS 7

iOS 7 has been released including a lot of new features, like a whole new design, the control center, air drop, new multitasking and an improved siri.

The control center let you swipe from the button of the screen to reveal toggles for wifi, bluetooth, etc. and let you adjust your volume and brightness and control your music. The notification center now includes a day-view, wich includes a weather widget, a calendar widget and a stocks widget. iOS now supports multitasking for all apps, and the multitasking has a new look. Air drop is now available on iOS (that let you share files with other apple devices using the wifi and bluetooth antenna). The camera app now includes filters and let you zoom while shooting a video, and the photos app includes new features. Finally, iTunes radio, the new music streaming service of Apple, is integrated in the music app.

Here is a list of what we should see in iOS 7 that will be presented at the WWDC 2013 and should be available this fall.

• A physical divide between ‘personal’ and ‘work’
• Better email management
• Quick access to core system features, like wi-fi and VPN
• Automatic app updates
• Custom domain search in Spotlight
• Unread item count on lock screen
• Location-aware sound profiles
• Location-aware wi-fi networking
• ’Guest mode’ for BYOD users
• AirDrop for simple file-sharing functionality
• Longer PIN code for enhanced security
• Set default apps
• Better multitasking
• Uninstall native, unnecessary apps
• Offline maps

iPhone 5S and 4.8′ iPhone

Apple wouldn’t release one iPhone in 2013 but 3! An iPhone 5S, that would feature the same design as the iPhone 5 but some new features, an iPhone with a 4.8′ screen and finally a cheaper iPhone made of plastic.

In my opinion, i don’t think that they will release a cheaper version of the iPhone, but it would be a great idea to sell a 4.8′ iPhone to compete against the Galaxy S3 and other phablets.

Here is a picture of the iPhone 5 and what would be the 4.8′ iPhone :

iPad mini is there

The iPad mini has been presented today. It features a beautiful display, powerful A5 chip, FaceTime HD camera, iSight camera with 1080p HD video recording, ultrafast wireless and over 275,000 apps ready to download from the App Store. iPad mini is an iPad in every way, shape and slightly smaller form.

Updates on the iPad mini (iPad Air)

According to some sites like 9to5Mac, the new 7,85-inch iPad wich would be released on September 12 would look more like an iPod Touch (4th gen) than an iPad (2nd and 3rd gen) and would maybe be called “iPad Air”. Here’s a picture of what this iPad would look like beside the current iPad of 9,7-inch. To see more pictures, go into the “iPhone 5 and iPad mini” section, on the top menu bar.

iPhone 5, iPad mini for september 12

According to a lot of rumors, the iPhone 5 (or the New iPhone) and the iPad mini would be unveiled on september 12, less than in one month! And on this date, Apple may also present a 13 inch Macbook Pro with a retina display and the new iPod lineup.

The iPhone 5

We don’t know his name but in my opinion it will be called the New iPhone, just like the new iPad released in last march. And I don’t think it would be called the iPhone 5 because it would be the 6th generation. But It is not the most important. We want to know the features! So it would feature a 4-inch display (iPhone 4S is 3,5″) allowing 5 rows of icons on the homescreen, a brand new design, two better cameras, the 4G LTE networking, the dual-core processor A5X with quad-core graphics, a better battery, a better Siri and of course iOS 6.

The iPad mini

Even if Steve Jobs didn’t like the idea of the 7-inch tablet, maybe we’ll see a 7-inch iPad on september 12! This would be a great way to compete against the Nexus 7 and the Kindle fire, very popular tablets. It would be called the iPad mini and priced around 250$ or 300$. It will probably have the same specs as the iPad 2 but in a smaller size.

iPod

We will probably see a new iPod nano with touch controls but on a bigger screen and i am not sure if the iPod touch will be updated…

To conclude, all of this are rumors but it makes much sense. We will see the truth in less than one month, the september 12th.

iOS 6 beta 4 without Youtube

After I had installed the 4th beta of iOS 6, the first thing i have noticed is the Youtube app that wasn’t here. It is certainly due to the war between Apple and Google.

The Verge reports that Apple has issued a statement acknowledging the removal.

“Our license to include the YouTube app in iOS has ended, customers can use YouTube in the Safari browser and Google is working on a new YouTube app to be on the App Store.”

Another new feature is the addition of a tab named “Bluetooth sharing” in the privacy tab (in settings app). Maybe the next iPhone will be able to share files with bluetooth 4.0 with other devices? We’ll know that the September 12!
